Cycling to Hardenberg

Slagharen is more than a park with roller coasters. Thanks to the western atmosphere, attractions and shows, a visit quickly feels like a real adventure for children. The renewed market square

The market square in Hardenberg has been renewed and made greener. Water fountains have been added to the square, along with stepping stones. This makes the centre not only more attractive, but also more fun to explore with children.
For children, water in a square is quickly interesting. Watching it, crossing the stepping stones or simply hanging around while you enjoy a drink on a terrace: it does not have to be big to be fun. You might also spot the striking town hall on the edge of the centre, once voted the ugliest building in the Netherlands

Summer activities in the centre

In summer, there is regularly something happening in the centre of Hardenberg. During the Klepperse Thursdays, there are often extra activities for children, such as face painting, games, a carousel or a bouncy castle. On some days, there are also meet & greets with well-known children’s characters. In 2026, the programme included Bert & Ernie, Bluey & Bingo, Toy Story, Bing and Loekie de Leeuw. The programme differs per date, so always check the current events calendar during your stay. Another fun moment is the Sesame Street Parade, where Pino, Ieniemienie and campsite mascots from the region walk through the centre. Bella, Bliz, Berk, Buur and, of course, Cobus also take part. A lovely moment to wave, take photos and meet the Stuuf heroes outside Stuufeiland.

Discover the River Vecht from the water

Hardenberg is located on the River Vecht, and you can experience it not only from the riverbank. From the centre, there are options to get out on the water, for example with a canoe, SUP board or boat. This lets you discover the Vechtdal from a completely different perspective.Canoeing is also regularly part of the summer activities programme at Kampeerdorp de Zandstuve. Do you enjoy it? After a trip to Hardenberg, it is nice to return to a place where the children can continue playing straight away.
